Home Health Productivity Points Calculator
Track your weekly visit points against your agency’s target. Enter the visits you have finished and the ones still scheduled to see how many points you need and how many visits are left.
Calculate weekly home health visit points
Point values and targets vary by agency; use your employer’s numbers. This tool is for planning your week. It does not calculate pay or billing, and it does not tell you what your employer or any regulation requires.
How home health visit points work
Some home health agencies measure productivity in weighted visit points instead of hours or billable minutes. A routine visit is worth about one point. Visits that take more time, such as evaluations or start-of-care visits, recertifications, resumptions of care, and discharges, are typically worth more. Your weekly total is compared with a target, often somewhere around 25 to 30 points for a full-time clinician.
The advantage for you is a simple running score. The catch is that every agency picks its own weights, so a number copied from a coworker at another company may not match your policy. That is why every weight in this calculator is editable and saved for next week.
The formula
Points completed = sum of (visits done × points each)
Points scheduled = sum of (visits scheduled × points each)
Projected total = points completed + points scheduled
Points still needed = weekly target − projected total (never below zero)
Routine visits to close the gap = points still needed ÷ routine weight, rounded up
Pace per workday = points still needed ÷ workdays left
Worked example
Target: 30 points. By Wednesday you have completed 14 routine visits, 1 evaluation, 1 recertification, and 1 discharge: 14 + 2 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 19 points.
You have 3 routine visits and 1 resumption of care scheduled: 3 + 1.5 = 4.5 points. Projected total: 23.5 points.
You still need 30 − 23.5 = 6.5 points. At 1 point per routine visit that is 7 more routine visits, or about 2.2 points per day over the 3 workdays left (2–3 routine visits a day).
Why your agency’s weights differ
Agencies build point systems around their own mix of patients, visit lengths, travel, documentation load, and staffing. One agency may give an evaluation 2 points while another gives 1.5. Some count an extra point for a long drive or a second patient in the same home, and some give different weights by discipline. The defaults here are examples only, so replace them with the values from your productivity policy or your manager before you rely on the result.
Tips for reaching your weekly points
- Front-load heavy visits. Schedule evaluations, recertifications, and discharges early in the week when you can, so a late cancellation does not leave you short on Friday.
- Plan for cancellations. Patients are sometimes unavailable. Lower the Scheduled count when a visit falls through and check how many routine visits it takes to recover.
- Check midweek. Update the counts on Wednesday and compare the per-day pace with what your route can realistically hold.
- Keep weights current. If your agency changes its point values, update them once and the calculator keeps them for later weeks.
Frequently asked questions
How many points should a home health therapist get in a week?
There is no universal number. Many agencies set weekly targets somewhere around 25 to 30 points for full-time clinicians, but the target and the weight of each visit type are set by your employer. Use the numbers in your own productivity policy.
How many points is an evaluation or start of care visit worth?
It depends on the agency. Evaluations, start-of-care visits, recertifications, resumptions of care, and discharges commonly count for more than a routine visit because they take longer, but the exact weights differ. Edit the weights in the calculator to match yours.
Does this calculator count cancelled or missed visits?
Only if you leave them out. Enter visits you have completed under Done and visits still on your schedule under Scheduled. If a scheduled visit is cancelled, lower its Scheduled count and the result updates.
Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?
Your target, weights, and counts are saved in your browser on this device so they are there next week. They are not sent to us. Use Forget saved values on this device to remove them.
Is this an official agency or Medicare productivity measure?
No. It is a planning tool for tracking weighted visit points against a target you enter. It does not calculate pay, billing, or compliance, and it cannot tell you what your employer requires.
